About the Piece

Going for a Swim captures the sensations and stories we experience in and around water. The intricate details along her legs and face symbolize water ripples and the effect those reflections have on our body. The ripples on her face also symbolize our interconnected relationship with nature, reminding us of the harmony and influence it has on us.

Her bathing suit features shapes inspired by a sea turtle's shell and the broken seashells often found scattered along the shore, adding texture and depth to the piece. Behind her, shapes represent both the splash of water and the elegance of a palm leaf, bringing together elements of motion and stillness. Lastly, the smudges around her eye mimic the smearing of mascara after a swim, grounding the piece in a spontaneous, relatable detail.

The overall piece exhibits energy and the spontaneity of "going for it," almost like directly jumping into a body of water without testing it out first.
